Pitt-Des Moines
Inc., a steel company with diversified interests
in steel construction and steel distribution opened up a
Steel Fabrication Plant in Sacramento, CA in 1966. The plant
continued at that location for more than 20 years.
On September 1, 1985, The Sacramento
Fabricating Facility became part of a new Subsidiary, PDM
Strocal, Inc.
In Late 1987, PDM Strocal, Inc. purchased
the former Western States Steel Fabrication facility in
Stockton, California and in January 1988 moved the Sacramento
facility to our current location, 2324 Navy Drive, Stockton,
CA 95206.
The Stockton Facility has been operating
successfully since that date. In mid 1988 PDM Strocal expanded
crews and started a two shift operation, and in 1990, expanded
the fabrication area by the completion of a new additional
bay.
In late 1997, PDM Strocal purchased 44
acres of property in Eloy, Arizona and began construction
of a 130,000 sq. ft. facility identical to the Stockton
based facility. In March 1998, the Eloy plant was completed
and began parallel fabrication of structural steel. Directed
and operated by key personnel from the Stockton facility,
the Eloy based plant has equaled Stockton's efficient methods
of fabricating for structural steel projects and succeeded
in doubling PDM Strocal's fabrication capacity. Centrally
located with direct access to Southern California and other
important cities in the Western United States via rail or
truck, Eloy is producing and delivering quality fabricated
steel on time.
On June 6, 2000, Pitt-Des Moines, Inc.,
announced sale of all of its divisions and subsidiaries.
Subsequently, On November 3, 2000, Pitt-Des Moines was pleased
to announce the sale of its wholly owned subsidiary, PDM
Strocal to its President Mr. David L. Long. PDM Strocal,
which was a part of the heavy construction segment of PDM
had revenues of $70 Million in 1999 and over $100 Million
in 2000.
Included in the Stock Purchase was PDM
Strocal, Inc. with interests in structural steel fabrication
and erection with plants in Northern California and Arizona
and Candraft Detailing, Inc., a Canadian drafting firm with
location in Vancouver, B.C. and Toronto, Ontario.
This purchase allowed the divisions management
team to continue the level of service that its clients have
become accustomed to, as all of its 450 employees have remained
in their present positions.
As a result of the sale, PDM Strocal,
Inc. changed its name to Strocal, Inc. and the name Candraft
Detailing Inc. remained unchanged.
Strocal, Inc. continues to fabricate
and erect major structural steel projects throughout the
Western United States including high-rise and mid-rise office
tower construction. The company will continue at its current
locations with its Corporate Head Quarters based in Stockton,
California.
